Hong Kong's eduaction system

I think all of us experienced the old education system in Hong Kong. A public examation in F.5 called HKCEE and a public examation in F.7 called A-level. In order to go to the good universitied in Hong Kong. You must need to work very hard on both of the examations which are very stressful for most of the students.

However, If you didn't get a good result in these examations, there're different choices for you to continuous your studies. One of the choice is (like us), go to study associate degree or high diploma. But the opportunities for going to universities directly after graduate, it's really small. Morover, we need to pay for the expensive school fee and have a very RUSH schedule. (We have to learn 12 different subjects in without 6 months) Sometimes, I think it's quite ridiculous but there are students who really can get an A in all subjects. So, our college will never think this is a problem.

Furthermore, I know there are some parents of the students who are now experiencing the new education system are worry about their children. They think that the Hong Kong governemnt are using their children as a tool to experiment the new education system. This is which I saw on the TV news. They rather send their children for oversea studies instead of let their children to stay in Hong Kong. They are lacking confidence with the new Hong Kong education system.

Nevertheless, we can't have any judgement of the new education system yet. Is it fail or not? Let see the performance of the first group of students who experience the new eduaction system  in 2013!

survey project reflection

There are some comment that I would like to give to Marco's group and Yuki's group.

First of all, I was quite surprise of their result. Japanese love the 'siu lung bao' the most in Hong Kong when they go to yum cha. However, 'siu lung bao' is not the most traditional food in Hong Kong. And also, Even the people  who did the survey and they live in Hong Kong, but they don't know there is a Disneyland in Hong Kong which is really surprise. It seems like Hong Kong government should do more promotion on it.

For the Yuki's group, their power point was very colorful and had lots of pictures on it. It can tell that they put a lot of effort on it. From their presentation, I realize Japanese people must have comics on their daily life and different age of people read different types of comic. It is a good way for us to know more about the comic culture in Japan.

Thank you to all of your presentation and I really learn a lot from it.

I hope there are more exchange programme in the future, just like the last time which held by hku-space. It can improve our communication with Japanese and learn more about their culture.

presentation of my survey

There were two presentation last week.
1. Yuri san and Joeie san about music
2. Phillip san, Kumo san and Buru san about OTAKU

Firstly, I really appreciate that Joeie's group put their data inside the circle. It's reaaly clear for us to see the result.
Secondly, I am quite surprise that Japanese people still purchase CD nowadays, which unlike Hong Kong people. We usually download the songs from internet or share with friends.
Thirdly, it's really shocked that Utada Hikaru is more popluar than Ayumi because Ayumi is very famous in Hong Kong(but not anymore). I thikk it's because more new stars pop out now.

おたくOTAKU

gēmu otaku (fan of playing video games)

which is an interesting topic for us and it's being concern by the society recently. Phillip san, Kumo san and Buru san 's presentation is a really good way for us to know more about otaku.
Most of the people have misunderstand about otaku. We think that they are lack of communication skill, scare to talk in front of people and spend most of the time on comic or animation.
However, after the presentation, I know that they are expert in some particular area of animation or theme. They can also be a nice, helpful or general person.
I want to say some more about Otaku is I know that there are some otaku restaurants in Hong Kong. I know one in Causeway Bay which is very popular. It had been showed in TV(TVB). The waitress in there are dress up like MAID and they serve the customers kindly which Otaku really enjoy it. haha

Personal Pronoun Project

Before I search on the internet, I didn’t know there are some many different ways to express ’I’ in Japanese.
I just know there are different between girls and boys. But young and old people also express ‘I’ in different ways. And also in a polite way. It’s really make people confuse.

Here is what I have searched on the internet.

わたし is the most common way to say I’ . This is a polite way which they usually say it in front of the elderly and their boss but not their friends.

Most of the girl use わたくしAND あたし
But why?

あたし is a more common way which they say it in front of their friends.

わたくし(私)also is a common way and it pronoun similar as わたし

In the boy way, they usually use ぼく(僕)おれ(俺)
These two words always appear in the song.

ぼく(僕)
It’s common in boys who are under age or say it in front of their family. However, nowadays girl also say BOKU recently. And in some girl singer pop songs, they also say BOKU as well. It’s being more popular.

But in the formal place, people would not use BOKU. Because people will think that you are IMMATURE. (which I search on the internet)

おれ(俺)
Compare with BOKU.
It’s impolite and rough. Boys usually say it in front of friends. If you use it in the formal party or in front of your boss, you will die immediately. (hahahaha…-_-‘)

The other way I search.
おれさま(俺様)
People who use ORESAMA usually are self-important and arrogant.
In Cantonese means 「本大爺」
Example: In doraemon ジャイアン(技安)
じぶん(自分)
Boys who play sports usually say JIBUN.
うち
Some places like KINKI (近畿, 關西) women usually use UCHI
わし(儂)
In some places like 中国、近畿、九州 are quite common.
In Cantonese means 「老子」. (OLD MAN)

Moreover, some Japan artists use their name as ‘I’.  Especially the young artists.

However, I would use あたし OR わたし to express myself. Because this is the most common way.

ARASHI-感謝カンゲキ雨嵐 (感謝感激暴風雨)

this is one of my favourite songs from ARASHI

http://www.tudou.com/programs/view/FiYhMGVvvoI/

Smile Again ありがとう
Smile Again a ri ga to u
Smile Again 何度でも
Smile Again na n do de mo
立ち上がれる 氣がしてる の勇氣は泉
ta chi a ga re ru ki ga shi te ru bo ku no yu u ki wa i zu mi

Smile Again ひとりでは
Smile Again hi to ri de wa
Smile Again いられない
Smile Again i ra re na i
とまどうほど 切實な 祈るような 戀は 嵐
to ma do u ho do se tu zi tsu na i no ru yo u na ko i wa a ra shi

Japanese Geography Project

I have never been to Japan before but 5 years ago, I really wanted to go to Tokyo but now I have changed my mind.
I really want to go to this place, Hokkaido.

Hokkaido locates in the north side of Japan. It is very famous for tourists for skiing. There are skiing events in winter every year. This is one of the reasons I want to go to Hokkaido.

In the summer, there are lavender in several places in富良野Furano. Look at this BIG lavender land, how amazing!

溫根湯溫泉On'neyu-onsen Hot Spring

I think most of the Hong Kong people have lots of pressure. I think this HOT SPRING will be suitable for us.

函館Hakodate

In函館Hakodate, sashimi are very famous because Hakodate locates near the sea. So the seafood is really fresh. おいしね!

Moreover, Recently, I discover there are lots of the food packet in Hong Kong are written with ‘Hokkaido 北海道

Milk from Hokkaido

There are lots of dessert emphasizes that they use this milk for their dessert. But why?
I know the reason after I taste their dessert. The dessert are more tasty and smoothly, especially the milk pudding.

This is an instant corn soup which I brought last week. It’s also from Hokkaido and it tastes really good. Tastes original sweet corn.

‘ROYCE’ chocolate.

(if you haven’t try it before, go to buy it tomorrow!)

ROYCE’ was founded in Sapporo in 1983. It is real good chocolate of world quality in Hokkaido where the climate and the clean air are suitable for making confectionaries.

I tried Royce chocolate in Hong Kong before, it tastes really good. However, my friends said it’s not as good as the Royce chocolate in Hokkaido originally. I really want to try it if I have a chance. ^_^

Finally, I found these picture on a travel website. In this place called

阿寒Akan

It called 雲海(cloud sea?) It is so amazing.

AND THIS!!! 杜鹃花 温根汤温泉

OMG….IS THIS REAL?!!

My Japanese PROJECT 1

I love reading Japanese fashion magazines, especially NON-NO.
But usually I just look at the pictures instead of reading the words because I can't read hiragana and katakana.
but now I start reading the word and try to guess some of the meaning. It's quite interesting because I found out that in the fashion magazine, they us a lot of katakana.
for examples:

ワンピ= ONE PIECE
Lots of people even they are not Japanese, they will still buy these kind of Japanese fashion magazines to read. It’s because we want to follow the fashion of Japan.
They use katakana, its easy for me to read and understand.
I think it's because one piece this word is come from English. And also, Japan loves the fashion in the UK.

The others example, カーデガ= Cardigan

In this picture, they use 漢字 to emphasis the word (popular). It's more clear and understand easily  to the people who doesn't know Japanese.

こんばんは!
